Lights, Camera, Action !

Powered by Merel Coebergh on behalf of TENCLUB

Cinema Extraordinaire is a series of late afternoon Sundays that will focus on the exploration of extraordinary movie classics, accompanied by a phenomenal dinner and dessert by GOESTING of chef Florence Droogné.

Interesting subjects and themes are discussed in an aftertalk with film critic and art historians Claire Hoogakker, and Merel Coebergh who will go deeper into the material of life, technique, themes, background and zeitgeist that are getting touched upon in the movie.

We start with the second edition of Cinema Extraordinaire with director Luchino Visconti, director of classics such as Le Notti Bianche (1957), The Damned (1969) ánd the maker of the classic Death in Venice (1971).

Death in Venice is based on the homo erotic novella by Thomas Mann, Morte a Venezia (1912). It follows the journey of the composer Gustav von Aschenbach, who leaves Germany for a vacation at the Lido in Venice

“In the luxury hotel at which he is staying he meets Tadzio, a beautiful and enigmatic Polish boy, the oldest of four children, who troubles his senses and stirs his imagination. Von Aschenbach gets dangerously fixed on Tadzio and a drama unfolds against the backdrop of the cosmopolitan society of the early 20th century.”

Enjoy this classic on a slow Sunday afternoon at our hearth accompanied by delicious dishes, a good movie and an inspiring aftertalk while the autumn rains pour outside.
